Retrofitting an existing facility with newer equipment is natural business practice. Technological improvements often make the newer equipment more efficient and effective than the ones you are replacing. For electricity driven equipment, this is almost certainly the case.
We appreciate that when your business is making choices with regards to equipment replacement options, the desired choice is for the most efficient solution. Unfortunately, this desired solution is not always realized often due to financial reasons.
The Ontario Power Authority (OPA), in cooperation with Welland Hydro-Electric System Corp., want to help you achieve your desired solution by offering you the Electricity Retrofit Incentive Program (ERIP). Extended until December 31, 2010, ERIP offers you financial incentives for retrofits that result in peak demand savings and/or a reduction in annual electricity consumption.

Helping Welland students to start the school year.

Just prior to the 2009 – 2010 school year Welland Hydro-Electric System Corp., in cooperation with the local Zellers store in the Seaway Mall, launched its “Bag To School” initiative which provided 90 backpacks full of school supplies for Welland elementary students. In addition, conservation items and materials were also included in each backpack for both the student and their guardian(s).
“This initiative would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the generosity of our local Zellers store” said Jason Biesma, CDM and Key Projects Manager at Welland Hydro-Electric System Corp.. Most of the backpacks and school supplies, which were heavily discounted by Zellers, were distributed directly to the students. Others were donated to local schools and Family and Children Services in Welland. |
Welland Hydro-Electric System Corp. presents scholarship to Centennial student

Last week, Welland Hydro-Electric System Corp. awarded another scholarship cheque to graduating secondary students. Centennial student Michelle Kuipers was the recipient of the Welland Hydro-Electric Systems Corp. Energy Conservation and Demand Management Scholarship as a result of the plan she developed for her school.
Working within a fixed budget, Ms. Kuipers’ conservation plan concentrated on three areas for improving energy efficiency at Centennial; lighting, windows and doors, and reducing phantom load.
In addition, Ms. Kuipers went above and beyond by researching various alternative energies and presenting the advantages and disadvantages of each to her class.
This was the third scholarship Welland Hydro-Electric System Corp. had given to graduating students from local high schools this year.
Students come up with energy conservation plan

Welland Hydro-Electric System Corp. sparked interest in energy conservation for two Jean Vanier secondary school students.
On top of their regular studies, Samantha Pringle and Catherine Roy worked hard over a semester of their Grade 12 year, putting together an energy conservation plan for their school. Both members of school's environment club, Pringle and Roy spent months doing research and making phone calls to discover the best methods Jean Vanier could put in place to conserve energy. The pair created the plan as part of a program sponsored by Welland Hydro-Electric System Corp., in which high school students compete for the Energy Conservation and Demand Management Scholarship.
Pringle and Roy spent their time researching items such as energy efficient windows, heating systems and roofs, and called around for estimates on all materials to determine the cost of converting to eco-friendly methods. They also contacted the French Catholic school board's director of planning and maintenance, Robert Castel, to get their hands on the school's current hydro bills and blueprints for the new Jean Vanier currently being built on River Rd.
